A twist on Terra Sigillata .

. A slab built box. Here i first put a copper carb. wash ( in the deeper parts of the surface ) and terra sigillata on before bisc. After bisc. i put on a low fire red glaze that i wiped off just so that the terra gets some color  and i get a hint of red to give the pot some life. The lower part has a darker terra on and just before glaze bake i sprayed  a solution of iron chromate and a frited iron  on to the work to get fine spotting on the surface and to accentuate the base line and handles.

Trying some new forms and methods.

I have come up with some new shapes and methods of getting these shapes. I am looking to find a form that will look good with a soda ash glaze , an earthy orange that you get from a wood firing. I want to replicate this in an electric firing. Here are a few of the tests i have done. If these are successful on the larger pieces i will add the method and recipes to the glazes and glazing section of this site.

Here are the new forms i have come up with. The object of the exercise is to make both forms into box forms with lids. Just having a problem getting the lids to fit as i have to work with soft clay to get the shape of the lid to fit the form of the box.
