Terra sigillata crackle.

One of my latest pots. After smoking in a sagger to 600 deg c. I got the crackle effect to stand out a bit more. Had to open the sagger to re-oxidize a bit as it was to dark. Re-oxidized at 400 deg c.

Oil spot glaze.

This is the oil spot cone 6 glaze that is listed in my glaze page. It is a two part glaze with an iron glaze going under the white glaze. Many variations of this glaze can be made by changing the oxides and the quantities of the top cover glaze . Here these pieces were fired twice as the soak time worked out to be to short to produce the oil spot first time around , and as you see i got an oil spot glaze on speed!!! This glaze seems to give different results with any change in the firing cycle and even from kiln to kiln. So keep a note of your ramp up times and your soak times !!

An iron / ash cone six red glaze.

Here are some pics of a glaze i worked on this year. A cone six electric fired iron and ash glaze. A black oxide pigment mix was sprayed on at an angle to pick up the high spots.

New shapes on the drying racks.

Here are a few of the new shapes of mine that are on the drying racks at the moment. I had to make a small stock as i will not be able to get on the kick wheel for a while as i have just had a complete new shoulder joint fitted. So throwing and wedging a no no for the moment.

Most of these have been stone polished  on the wheel after turning down the feet.

These pots will will get the new terra sigillata that cracks in the raku applied to them. I will spend some time on the decoration and application of the terra once the shoulder is  usable

Cracked terra sgillata or Terra raku.

I have been trying for a long time now to get a crackle on my terra sigillata pots. I seem to have found the right method now so all i have to work on now is the  smoke reaction that i am still getting on the side of the pot as i just want it in the cracks.I will change my method of terra. application next time.
